Ordering Our Desires

 

Desire is often talked about as something we ought to overcome. Still, being is desiring : our bodies, our minds, our hearts, and our souls are full of desires. Some are unruly, turbulent, and very distracting; some make us think deep thoughts and see great visions

; some teach us how to love; and some keep us searching for God. Our desire for God is the desire that should guide all other desires. Otherwise our bodies, minds, hearts, and soul become one another's enemies and our inner lives become chaotic, leading us to despair and self-destruction.

Spiritual disciples are not ways to eradicate all our desires but ways to order them so that they can serve on another and together serve God.

우리의 욕망을 정돈하기

 

욕망은 자주 우리가 넘어서야할 무엇인양 이야기 되어졌다. 여전히, 존재는 욕망이다; 우리의 몸, 우리의 지성, 우리의 마음, 우리의 영혼은 욕망으로 가득차 있다. 어떤 것은 휘어잡을 수 없고, 휘몰아치고, 매우 마음을 산란케 한다; 어떤 것은 우리로 깊은 사고를 생각케하고, 대단한 비젼을 보게한다; 어떤 것은 우리에게 어떻게 사랑해야할지 가르친다; 어떤 것은 하나님을 찾도록 한다. 우리의 하나님을 향한 욕망이 모든 다른 욕망들을 인도하는 욕망이다. 그렇지 않다면, 우리의 몸들과, 지성과, 마음과 영혼들 서로의 적들이 되고 우리의 내면은 혼돈이 된다. 욕망으로 우리를 이끄는 것이고 자신을 파괴시키는 것이다.

영적인 제자는 모든 우리의 욕망이 뿌리채 뽑는 것이 아니라, 그들을 다른 것에 봉사하고 함께 하나님을 섬기도록 질서 잡아주는 길이다.
