Be Still

After the first command of Psalm 46, the second follows ....

 

 

 

 

 

The second command is "Be still, and know that I am God." Be still. Quit rushing through the streets long enough to become aware that there is more to life than your little self-help enterprise. When we are noisy and when we are hurried, we are incapable of intimacy - deep, complex, personal relationship. If God is the living center of redemption, it is essential that we be in touch with and responsive to that personal will. If God has a will for this world and we want to be in on it, we must be still long enough to find out what it is (for we certainly are not going to learn by watching the evening news). Baron von Hugel, who had a wise word on most subjects, always held out that "nothing was ever accomplished in a stampede."   Step out the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.   PSALM 46:10

Words     Quit - 그만두다. 떠나다. enterprise - 기획, 기업 incapable - 할 수 없는, 무능한, 부적격한 stampede- 놀라서 우루루 달아나는 것 take a long time 오래 걸리다

두 번째 명령은 "가만히 있으라, 그리고 내가 하나님 됨을 알라."는 것이다. 여전히 있으라. 거리를 충분히 둠으로 밀어닥치는 것을 피하여 충분히 깨닫게 될 것은 너의 스스로 돕는 기획들 보다 살아가기에 더 많은 것이 있다는 것이다. 우리가 시끄러워질 때와 우리가 서둘러 질 때, 우리는 친밀함 - 깊고, 복잡하고, 개인적인 관계 - 에 부적격 해진다. 만일 하나님이 구원의 중심에 살아계신다면, 우리가 그 안에 만져지고 개인적인 의지로 반응하는 것이 핵심적인 것이다. 만일 하나님이 이 세상을 위한 의지를 가지고 계시고 우리는 이 안에 있기를 원한다면, 우리는 여전히 이것을 찾기에 충분한 시간을 가야한다.
