Our Unique Call

 

 

So many terrible things happen every day that we start wondering whether the few things we do ourselves make any sense. When people are starving only a few thousand miles away, when wars are raging close to our borders, when countless people in our cities have no homes to live in, our own activities look futile. Such considerations, however, can paralyze and depress us.

Here the word call becomes important. We are not called to save the world, solve all problem, and help all people. But each of us has our own unique call, in our families, in our work, in our world. We have to keep asking God to help us see clearly what our call is and to give us the strength to live out that call with trust. Then we will discover that our faithfulness to a small task is the most healing response to the illnesses of our time.

우리의 유일한 소명

 

 

그렇게 많은 끔찍한 일이 매일 생겨 나는데 그것은 우리 스스로가 어떤 감각을 가지는 어떤 것의 염려를 시작하는 것이다. 사람들이 단지 몇 천 마일을 떠나 굶주릴 때, 전쟁이 우리의 가장자리 쪽으로 격렬히 닫게 할 때, 우리도시의 셀 수 없는 사람들이 살 집이 없을 때, 우리의 가진 행동이 시시해 보일 때이다. 그러한 고려들, 심지어, 마비시키고 우리를 내리누른다.

여기 단어는 중요한 것이 되게 부른다. 우리는 세상을 구하거나, 모든 문제를 풀거나, 모든 사람들을 돕도록 부름 받지 않았다. 그러나 우리 각자는 우리 자신의 고유한 소명을 가지고 있는데, 우리의 가족 안에서, 우리의 일에서나, 우리의 세상에서 그렇다. 우리는 하나님께 물어야만 하는데 우리의 소명이 분명하도록 우리를 돕기 위해서이고, 신뢰와 함께 불려진 것에 살아가기 위한 힘을 주기 위해서이다. 그러고 나서 우리는 발견할 것인데 그것은 우리의 작은 일을 향한 믿음이 우리 시대의 상처받은 자들을 향한 가장 중요한 치유의 반응인 것이다.
